Being Savvy...on teaching kids about the election process

November 03, 2008

So, I received a call yesterday afternoon letting me know that my interview on CBS 11 News in the Morning was confirmed.  That meant getting up at 4 a.m. and sneaking out the house trying not to wake anyone up early. God bless Starbucks - it was open at 4:50 so I was able to get a little eye-opener.

What on earth would possess motivate me to go through this, you might ask?  This month, Being Savvy has featured articles and information on teaching children about the election process. CBS got excited about doing a short segment on it and invited me in to represent Savvy Source.

Here is the link to watch my television debut: CBS News 11

Although I wish I had a new hairstyle and make-up artist, the information was good. I had about 20 minutes of information and had to condense it into about 3.  A fellow Being Savvy City Editor sums up the best way to talk to your children about the election. It sure was fun to see how the whole news process works. It takes a lot of people and planning to give us our daily shot of news, traffic, and weather!

And, be sure you bring your kids with you to vote tomorrow...take a picture, post it on the refrigerator, and watch the verdict together. Be sure and get two "I Voted" stickers and enjoy free ice cream at Ben and Jerry's and a free coffee at Starbucks!
