For the next four weeks, we'll be giving you brief reviews on educational books and toys that are featured here on The Savvy Source.  My quick reviews today are of 5 classic preschoolers books. The Color Kittens by Margaret Wise Brown. Such a fun book! My daughter loves the fun illustrations and the idea of kittens mixing colors just delights her! It's a great book for opening up their imaginations with ideas of how to make green and have silly dreams. We love this one!

One Fish, Two Fish by the inimitable Dr. Seuss. This was one of the first books I read to my children from babies on. The lyrical sounds entrance them even when they don't understand anything I'm saying. The fun pictures provide many "why" and "what" questions as they get older. I've noticed that now my 3 yo makes up her own silly poems of words that don't make sense...latent memories of One Fish, Two Fish I bet!

My First Real Mother Goose by Blanche Fisher Wright. This is such a fun book to read! Not only does it tongue-tie me when I read it, but it brings back memories of my mom reading it to me. The kids delight in the great illustrations, as well as the silly rhymes. A true classic!

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter - I have been reading this to my daughter since she was very young. The illustrations are beautiful and calming and the story teaches a good lesson about doing what mom says. My daughter still laughs when Peter sneezes in the watering can and she's heard it a hundred times in 3 years! A great classic tale of why it's not good to be naughty.

The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. A beautiful classic that brings to life empathy, heartache, and love in a child's heart. My daughter is spellbound as she hears how the bunny is so sad and worried.  But, in the end, it all turns out even better than imagined. Keep a tissue nearby, as it will affect the reader as well.
